General Motors is on a roll
by Aman Chaudhry1 CommentGM is making some big announcements at the Busan Motor Show in South Korea and we have no choice but to keep it in our top news list.
The U.S. Automaker has launched the Daewoo Alpheon, which is a rebadged Buick La Cross, at the Motor Show stepping into the luxury sedan market.
“With the introduction of the all-new Alpheon luxury sedan, we have added another attractive model to our product portfolio and our first entry in the fast-growing upper-midsize segment in Korea,” said GM Daewoo President and CEO Mike Arcamone. “I am confident that the Alpheon will surpass the demands of the most sophisticated luxury sedan buyers in Korea.”
The Alpheon will come with a 3.0-liter V6 engine that offers 255 horsepower (same as the Buick La Cross) coupled with a six-speed automatic transmission.
This stand-alone luxury product brand in the GM Daewoo portfolio comes with a custom badge on its front grille to offer exclusivity. The Alpheon has a wheelbase of 2.837 mm and has an overall length of 4995 mm and is scheduled to be available in the Korean market later this year.

Alpheon is GM Daewoo’s entry into the upper-midsize segment
Busan, Korea – GM Daewoo Auto & Technology (GM Daewoo) unveiled its much-anticipated luxury sedan, the Alpheon, at the 2010 Busan International Motor Show today.
Another highlight of the GM Daewoo stand is a seven-seat compact multi-purpose vehicle, the Orlando show car, which is making its first appearance at an international motor show in Asia.
In addition, GM Daewoo has on display the Lacetti Premiere and GentraX race cars, and a Matiz mini-car artistically wrapped in pink.
With “Advancing Style” as its theme for this year’s Busan International Motor Show, GM Daewoo has 18 vehicles on display that showcase its automotive industry design expertise.
Alpheon – Stylish Luxury Sedan
The Alpheon is based on the same GM global architecture as the Buick LaCrosse, one of the three finalists for 2010 North American Car of the Year.
GM designers and engineers from Asia, Europe and North America targeted the luxury sedan as a global product that would meet the highest quality and performance standards in the most sophisticated markets.
At first glance, the Alpheon’s sculpting design flows in all directions, giving the vehicle a tightly wrapped appearance and a fast, coupe-like profile. Its dynamic and elegant body styling is highlighted by sharp side lines, short overhangs and fenders wrapped precisely around large wheel housings, giving it the presence of an upscale large sedan (2,837-mm wheelbase and 4,995mm body length).
With a unique emblem on its front “waterfall” grille, the Alpheon becomes a stand-alone luxury product brand in GM Daewoo’s product portfolio.
The innovative design philosophy continues in the Alpheon’s interior. The flowing shape of its instrument panel design offers a distinct, confident and upscale impression. The refined look is an integrated center stack design that incorporates ice-blue light-emitting diode (LED) ambient lighting along with premium infotainment features. Adding to the use of soft-touch materials and low-gloss trim panels rather than traditional wood applications is indicative of exceptional and luxurious craftsmanship.
Powered by a 3.0-liter V-6 engine combined with a six-speed automatic transmission, the Alpheon will ensure responsive performance when it is launched in the second half of this year in Korea.

GM ready to step into Korean market
by Aman Chaudhry1 CommentGeneral Motors has been trying to work on it’s Chevrolet brand for several years now, and this time they have decided to launch it in South Korea.
GM Daewoo president Mike Arcamone announced at the ongoing Busan Motor Show in South Korea that GM has decided to step into the Korean market and leading the way will be the exciting muscle car – The Camaro.
“The introduction of Chevrolet will enable us to provide our customers an array of exciting new vehicles from the brand’s global lineup, giving them more driving options,” said Arcamone in the press release.
“According to our market research, half of all Koreans are familiar with the brand and more than 80 percent are aware ofChevrolet’s distinctive logo. This is indicative of the positive brand image that already exists among consumers in Korea toward Chevrolet. We see tremendous upside with its introduction,” he added.
For the time being it is understood that Chevrolet and Daewoo vehicles will co-exist in the Korean market but in due course Daewoo will be phased out leaving Chevrolet in the lime light.
The Chevrolet Camaro will go on sale in Korea in 2011.

Jaguar’s 75th Anniversary celebrations go on
by Aman ChaudhryNo CommentsThe year 2010 marks the 75th anniversary for Jaguar and while a some of us already know that, Jaguar plans to celebrate the glorious 75 years and looking forward for brighter future.
Mike O’Driscoll, Managing Director of Jaguar Cars, said: “In 2010 we celebrate our past, and 75 years of designing and building cars that celebrate the art of automobile making. We’re also celebrating the promise of the future, and the introduction of the all-new XJ. In just three years we’ve completely revitalized the Jaguar line-up with the launch of three beautiful fast cars”.
The new 2011 XJ is charged with a 5.0-liter supercharged V8 and is already making quite a statement. Jaguar claims that the new XJ will go be available in dealerships in the US by next month.
Along with this Jag also plans to continue the celebration by entering a fleet on cars at the 2010 Mille Miglia revival event.
The Mille Miglia is a highly celebrated iconic race that demonstrates the original rally route through the Italian countryside even though it’s not exactly a current day racing event. All the big names including Ferrari, Alfa Romeo and Maserati have been participating in this event but this year Jaguar plans to go flat out with an impressive line-up.
The company is represented by a total of 27 vehicles from around the world, including an impressive ‘works team’ of classic XK120, C-type and D-type models supported by Jaguar Cars and the Jaguar Heritage Trust.
Jaguar’s strong representation at the 2010 Mille Miglia builds on a long connection with the race. Back in 1950, the company fielded a four-strong team of XK120s, and a young Stirling Moss took the wheel of a works car the following year.
“The Mille Miglia is one of the world’s premier driving events, and one where Jaguar has always felt very much at home,” said Mike O’Driscoll, Managing Director of Jaguar Cars, who will be piloting one of the famous C-type racers in this year’s competition.
“Our association stretches back to the 1950s, when XK120 and XK140s were a regular sight and C-types and even a D-type also competed. This year I am proud to see another very strong contingent of classic Jaguars.” he added.
The 2010 Mille Miglia takes place over a 1000-mile course starting from Brescia in northern Italy, mirroring the classic event, which became synonymous with legendary displays of driving skill and bravery between 1927 and 1957.
“2010 marks the 75th anniversary of the Jaguar name, and 75 years of looking forward, designing and building cars that represent the very best of technical innovation, design leadership and sporting success,” explained O’Driscoll.

Porsche plays it Safe
by Aman Chaudhry2 CommentsPorsche has recently made an announcement that it is going to recall all of the 11,324 Panameras sold worldwide because of the seatbelt safety issue.
Just days after Porsche announced the filling out the Panamea lineup with an addition of a V6 powered model they had to announce this recall. Porsche said that all 11,324 cars sold would be brought to the mechanic to fix the possible faulty seatbelt.
After a series of tests, the defect was discovered in the four-seater luxury saloon. The main fault being that when the front seats are set to their maximum forward position, the seatbelts’ locking mechanism could detach from the anchoring system which could lead to fatality in the event of a crash.
A spokesperson from Porsche said that this measure would be completely a safety precaution and an additional safety element would be added to the cars recalled and also to the cars in production.
Porsche mechanics plan to strengthen the anchoring seatbelt system by installing additional locks, which will help the seatbelt, mount to retain strength and not detach. He further mentioned that the repair would be free of charge and the process will not take more than 15 minutes

It saw the official unveiling of the Alfa Romeo TZ3 Corsa race car. Zagato, one of Italy’s top coach builders and Alfa Romeo celebrated their 90 year collaboration and also 100 years of common racing history.
The TZ3 is built around a mono shell carbon fiber tubular chassis along with a tubular frame and aluminum body sell making it 4.3 meters long, 1.9 m wide and 1.2 m wide while keeping the sports cars’ weight at 850 kg.
Under the hood you will find a 4.2-liter V8 engine with 420 horsepower, which used dry sump lubrication and allows manual adjustable calibration. A 6-speed sequential gearbox is attached which makes the TZ3 cover 0 to 100 km/h in less than 3.5 seconds and offers a top speed of 300 km/h.
This is a full-blown race car with OMP developing the suspension, WRC carbon fiber seats and steering wheel and Pirelli supplied the 18 inch slick Pzero tyres.

The race car was commissioned by the German Alfa Romeo Zagato Collector Martin Kapp.“The TZ3 Corsa is not a design exercise. It does not take inspiration only from the 90 year collaboration between the two brands, neither only from the Milanese conjunction between Alfa Romeo and Zagato. Jaguar XJ model achieves Environmental Certificate
by Aman ChaudhryNo CommentsJaguar has received certification from the VCA (Vehicle Certification Agency) for a comprehensive ‘cradle-to-grave’ study which analyses the environmental impact of its exciting new lightweight XJ model. The detailed life cycle study will help accelerate the development of the next generation of more sustainable Jaguars, and highlights the company’s progress in reducing the carbon footprint of its products.
The life-cycle assessment of the latest XJ was fully audited and approved by the VCA, making Jaguar one of the few vehicle manufacturers to have completed an officially recognised study of the environmental impact of a vehicle – from manufacturing, through a lifetime of customer use, to ultimate disposal and recycling.
The comprehensive study will enable Jaguar to identify new opportunities to improve the sustainability of its vehicles, including developing the aerospace-inspired lightweight aluminium architecture which plays a central role in the outstanding performance and efficiency of the new XJ.
“VCA certification is an important milestone in Jaguar’s mission to reduce the environmental impact of its products,” says Tony Higgins, Project Leader for the XJ certification. “Detailed life-cycle assessment helps us understand more clearly the most effective ways of reducing each model’s carbon footprint.
“Jaguar is committed to maintaining a leadership position in its approach to sustainability, and the certification achieved for the new XJ model is an independent validation of the progress we have made,” he added.
