  • 2011 Audi A8 L Preview

         by Aman Chaudhry

This piece of news has been in line for a while now, everybody knew it was on it’s way and now, it’s finally here.

Wait a second…What the hell am I talking about?

Audi has just released the official press data and images of the Audi A8 L on their press site and we at Autogeared are serving it straight out of the oven.

Audi A8 L has an overall length of almost 17.5 feet and a wheel base of 10.24 feet which is not only longer by half a foot of the existing A8, it also makes the A8 L few inches shorter than the Maybach.

This is power and luxury at it’s so very best that it isn’t funny. This super long wheelbase A8 comes with a W12 engine that puts out 500 horsepower and 460 pound feet of torque. This mammoth of an engine is paired with the latest Quattro all-wheel-drive with a 40-60 percent rear base torque split which with the help of Audi’s eight-speed automatic transmission swallows the distance of 0-100 km/h in just 4.9 seconds with a top speed of 250 km/h.

The new A8 L is underpinned with the last Aluminum Space Frame (ASF) and has bee loaded with many driver assist and performance tools. Thrown in is an adaptive cruise control, night vision with pedestrian detection, lane assist and side assist that make the chauffeur’s life easier. (This car’s gotta have a chauffeur!)

Wait, the best is still to come. Once you take a look on the inside of this luxury sedan all you would want to do is stay there and never leave.

The interiors are layered with special in Valonea leather, tanned exclusively with plant extracts to be soft and able to “breathe” actively. There’s a full-length center console and two power-adjustable seats, which are heated and ventilated, and along with the regular adjustments, these seats are powered with cushion depth, lumbar support and seat back angle. Oh, and these seats can massage you as well.

Along with the standard four-zone automatic climate control with 25 motors, there’s everything from ambient lighting to a refrigerator.

Acoustics haven’t been forgotten either. There’s a fully loaded 1,400-watt, 19-speaker Bang & Olufsen Advanced Sound System, two large monitor screens that present everything in high-resolution 3D graphics.

This Audi A8 L will make its official public debut at the Beijing Auto Show this month. Audi plans to put the A8 L on sale in the U.S. in this fall and the W-12 model will follow closely around first quarter of 2011.
