Audi takes a light flight
by Aman ChaudhryNo CommentsAudi R8 V10 sheds weight to go faster!
Everybody loves the Audi R8. I don’t know anyone who has anything bad to say about this sports car. With such supreme looks and power infused together, it clearly had been topping the favorite sports cars in the world. So what does Audi do about it? They simply go ahead and make it even better. Audi announced the all-new R8 GT, which is lighter and goes faster. Simple.
First to shed the weight Audi engineers have used thinner glass windshields, replacing aluminum body parts with Carbon-Fiber Reinforced Plastic and giving it polycarbonate rear windows. A few small changes like a lighter airbox, seats and braking system, Audi managed to drop a total of 220 pounds off the standard R8’s kerb weight.
Then to make it go faster Audi incorporated the R8 GT with a 5.2-liter V10 engine that has been boosted from 525 horsepower to 560 and is available which is mated with the 6-speed R-Tronic sequential manual that makes it trigger to 0 to 62 mph is just 3.6 seconds and 0 to 124 mph in 10.5 seconds. The terminal velocity has been increased to 198.8 mph.
At the first look special badging can be noticed along with a rear hatch spoiler. Very characteristic new wheels can be seen on the R8 GT while the chassis upgrade includes optional Cup tiles and a manually adjustable coilover suspension. Audi also announced that a four-point harness, a roll cage and a special cam lock for harnesses is available on request.
The R8 GT will be priced around $256,000 U.S, though no further information on sales dates have been disclosed by Audi.
