by Aman ChaudhryNo Comments
Ferrari California, 458 Italia and 599 GTO “steal the show” in the Sunday Times Supercar Run at Goodwood Festival of SpeedThe “red cars with the Prancing Horses stole the show” at the Goodwood Festival of Speed, declared Auto Express, after seeing the Ferrari California, 458 Italia and 599 GTO wow the crowds in the Sunday Times Supercar Run throughout the weekend. The 458 Italia and 599 GTO were making their public debuts at the UK’s premiere automotive event, while crowds were drawn to the very unique Ferrari California with an extensive range of personalisation options including a two-tone paint scheme of Argento Nurburgring (silver) with a black roof, reminiscent of classic Ferrari berlinettas of the ‘50s and ‘60s.
Although the Sunday Times Supercar Runs are not officially timed, the Ferraris reached the finish line in less than 1 minute, with the 458 Italia completing the 1.16 mile course in an astonishing 54 seconds, nearly 3 seconds quicker than most F1 cars from the 1970s, and the California accomplished an equally impressive time of 57 seconds.
Ferrari driver Marc Gene also demonstrated the Ferrari F60 single-seater from the 2009 F1 Championship, with a display of wonderful and committed driving, reaching speeds of over 150mph as he approached the famous flint wall after the tricky Molecomb corner, followed by a lengthy series of autograph sessions in the fan’s favourite upper paddock.
Also representing the most successful F1 team of all time, with 16 Constructor’s World Championship and 16 Driver’s World Championships, were a number of classic and exotic single-seaters and sport prototypes from the 1950s, 60s and 70s, such as the iconic 312BB “Spazzaneve” from 1972, a beautiful 250TR from 1959 and a 375MM that competed in the Carrera Panamerica in 1953.

Ferrari Celebrates the Goodwood Festival of Speed
by Aman Chaudhry1 CommentTwo of Ferrari’s latest supercars will be making their public debuts at this year’s Goodwood Festival of Speed: the beautifully-styled and innovative mid-engined 458 Italia and a technologically-advanced V12 flagship which carries one of the most evocative name badges in automotive history, the 599 GTO. Also appearing in the Sunday Times Supercar Run will be a very special Ferrari California with a unique “bi-colore” roof and a personalised interior, while the Scuderia Ferrari will be represented by the 2009 F1 car which will be driven by Marc Gene throughout the weekend.
The Ferrari 458 Italia represents a genuine evolution of Maranello’s mid-rear engined V8 sports cars and it has won a host of international awards, including BBC Top Gear’s “Supercar of the Year” and even more coveted “Car of the Year”, GQ Magazine’s “Supercar of the Year” and MSN Cars UK’s “Supercar of the Year”.
The Ferrari 458 Italia introduces a number of innovative technologies, such as the reduction of internal friction losses inside the engine as well as significant aerodynamics development on the exterior design, including the aeroelastic winglets at the front that generate downforce and, as speed rises, deform to reduce the section of the radiator inlets and cut drag.
The new 4,499 cc V8 engine is a veritable powerhouse, punching out 570hp, and, combined with the 7-speed F1 dual-clutch gearbox and a dry weight of just 1380 kg, the 458 Italia boasts a weight-power ratio of 2.42 kg (a power-weight ratio of 413hp per ton), and can sprint from 0 to 100 km/h in under 3.4 seconds and hit a maximum speed of over 325 km/h.
The Ferrari 599 GTO recreates the evocative “GTO” moniker which previously appeared on two of the Prancing Horse’s most iconic supercars, the race-bred 250 GTO and the 288 GTO which defined the term “supercar”. The 599 GTO is an extreme V12 berlinetta which has been designed to fulfil a specific performance-oriented brief and is the company’s fastest ever road car. It is an exclusive limited edition special which is based on the 599XX, the advanced experimental track car, and is reserved for just 599 clients who seek the maximum expression of high-performance driving. The 599 GTO benefits directly from the technological transfer from racing and set a record lap time at Fiorano in 1’24”.
The Fiorano lap time provides just one indication of the potential of this car. Just as significant are the technical specifications – 670hp in a 1495kg car represents a weight-to-power ratio of just 2.23 kg/hp, and ensures a 0-100 km/h acceleration time of just 3.35” as well as a top speed of over 335 km/h.
The Ferrari California is the Prancing Horse’s first front-engined V8 which has been classically styled to echo one of the greatest designs from Ferrari’s history, the 250 GT California. The new California, however, is packed with the latest technology and includes Ferrari’s first dual-clutch 7-speed gearbox, a direct injection 4.3 V8 engine with 460hp, the latest F1-Trac traction control system, a new multi-link rear suspension, and, of course, an innovative retractable folding hardtop that opens or closes in only 14 seconds. The California has already received the critical acclaim of the automotive press around the world, with Top Gear claiming it is a “proper God’s honest, marrow-deep Ferrari”, and Autocar describing it as “absolutely bloody marvellous!”
The particular Ferrari California on display at Goodwood features a “bi-colore” roof, with the car painted in Argento Nurburgring (metallic silver) and the roof and A-pillar in Nero (black) to echo the tradition of bi-colore berlinettas of the 1950s and 1960s. The car on display in the Supercar Paddock also features several items from the Genuine Ferrari Accessories range, such as forged 20” matt black wheels with titanium wheel bolts, as well a host of “extra-campionaro” factory-fit options from the Carrozzeria Scaglietti Personalisation Programme such as diamond-stitching on the rear seats and Cavallino stitching on headrests in Nero.
Ferrari is also represented by the Scuderia Ferrari team who will be demonstrating the 2009 F1 car, driven by Marc Gené, throughout the weekend. Additional fine examples of Ferrari’s illustrious racing heritage can also be seen in the Cathedral Paddock.

Ferrari 599 Roadster Ready for August
by Aman ChaudhryNo CommentsFerrari finally announced the introduction of a cabriolet version of the 599 GTB Fiorano to their fleet.
Ferrri plans to debut the open-top version of the 599 in California at the Pebble Beach concourse sometime in August. Following the footsteps of the V12 Superamerica, it is believed that expected 599 would also have a power premium that would allow it to maintain its dynamic qualities in spite of the extra weight.
Ferrari is using a different thought process while planning the name of the car. Ferrari’s boss Luca de Montezemolo mentioned, “it will have an emotional, romantic name such as Italia or Fiorano.”
While name will be romantic, Ferrari does have a shocker planned up its sleeve. The Ferrari 599 will also be available in hybrid version by 2015. The car was previewed by the HY-KERS ventura laboratorio (experimental vehicle), which was introduced at this year’s Geneva Auto Show. The vehicle’s hybrid powertrain uses a compact, tri-phase electric motor, coupled with a rear-mounted dual clutch 7 seven speed transmission. The electric motor tips the scale at 40 kg and has an output of 100 hp, which allows it to compensate for the weight of the whole electric drive system.
Ferrari also plans to introduce a V6 powerplant along with the development of turbocharged V8 engines.
Despite going green Ferrari promises that nothing will affect the performance of its future vehicles.

Jaguar’s 75th Anniversary celebrations go on
by Aman ChaudhryNo CommentsThe year 2010 marks the 75th anniversary for Jaguar and while a some of us already know that, Jaguar plans to celebrate the glorious 75 years and looking forward for brighter future.
Mike O’Driscoll, Managing Director of Jaguar Cars, said: “In 2010 we celebrate our past, and 75 years of designing and building cars that celebrate the art of automobile making. We’re also celebrating the promise of the future, and the introduction of the all-new XJ. In just three years we’ve completely revitalized the Jaguar line-up with the launch of three beautiful fast cars”.
The new 2011 XJ is charged with a 5.0-liter supercharged V8 and is already making quite a statement. Jaguar claims that the new XJ will go be available in dealerships in the US by next month.
Along with this Jag also plans to continue the celebration by entering a fleet on cars at the 2010 Mille Miglia revival event.
The Mille Miglia is a highly celebrated iconic race that demonstrates the original rally route through the Italian countryside even though it’s not exactly a current day racing event. All the big names including Ferrari, Alfa Romeo and Maserati have been participating in this event but this year Jaguar plans to go flat out with an impressive line-up.
The company is represented by a total of 27 vehicles from around the world, including an impressive ‘works team’ of classic XK120, C-type and D-type models supported by Jaguar Cars and the Jaguar Heritage Trust.
Jaguar’s strong representation at the 2010 Mille Miglia builds on a long connection with the race. Back in 1950, the company fielded a four-strong team of XK120s, and a young Stirling Moss took the wheel of a works car the following year.
“The Mille Miglia is one of the world’s premier driving events, and one where Jaguar has always felt very much at home,” said Mike O’Driscoll, Managing Director of Jaguar Cars, who will be piloting one of the famous C-type racers in this year’s competition.
“Our association stretches back to the 1950s, when XK120 and XK140s were a regular sight and C-types and even a D-type also competed. This year I am proud to see another very strong contingent of classic Jaguars.” he added.
The 2010 Mille Miglia takes place over a 1000-mile course starting from Brescia in northern Italy, mirroring the classic event, which became synonymous with legendary displays of driving skill and bravery between 1927 and 1957.
“2010 marks the 75th anniversary of the Jaguar name, and 75 years of looking forward, designing and building cars that represent the very best of technical innovation, design leadership and sporting success,” explained O’Driscoll.

Ferrari to Launch Six New Models by 2013
by Aman Chaudhry1 CommentThe Ferrari Family will expand by six new members before 2013. Ferrari has announced that it will produce not less than six new models as a part of Fiat’s restructuring plans.
The six models include the Ferrari 458 Spider, the 458 Scuderia, the new 2012 Ferrari Enzo, the new 612 Scaglietti, the 2012 Scaglietti 599 and the Ferrari California.
Ferrari claims that they will reveal The Spider variant of the entry level 458 to begin with in 2011, which might come with a soft top.
The following Ferrari plans to produce the much-anticipated successor for the Ferrari Enzo that is considered to be a really special model because it will not be a part of the standard range and will be produced in limited numbers only.
2012 Enzo will be powered with a V12 engine and Ferrari has claimed that it will benefit from the company’s new active aerodynamics technology, which improves the airflow around the bottom of the car. They also plan to launch an all-new version of the 599 GTB Fiorano in the same year.
The 2012 Ferrari 612 Scaglietti will probably be the company’s first production hybrid but whether it will go by the same name is not yet clear.
Ferrari California will receive a major facelift before 2013 and goes by the codename of California M.

Ferrari 458 makes public début in N America
by Aman ChaudhryNo CommentsFerrari decided to keep away from all fancy press conferences and events in the United States for the 458 Italia. The company’s new mid-engined V8 was also kept away from all the major auto shows.
There was a private party ad auction held in Southern California but of course, that was strictly for the celebrities and top-notch clients.
Ferrari finally did put the 458 Italia on display to the public near the small town of Tooele, Utah where Miller Motorsports Park was hosting the second Ferrari Challenge event of the year.
It goes without saying that not many people got a glimpse of this Ferrari, so we did our best to get you the images.

The World has a New Ferrari!
by Aman ChaudhryNo CommentsFerrari 599 GTO
Here comes the new Ferrari 599 GTO.
What the hell is going on here?
This isn’t a joke. No, seriously, Ferrari’s official site just released pictures of their all new 599 GTO which is going to be the fastest ever road-going Ferrari and that’s not it, it’s going to be public soon.If you don’t believe me, just click here.
There are going to (hold your breath) unveil it at the 2010 Beijing International Automotive Exhibition which will be held in Beijing, China International Exhibition Center from April 25 -May 2, 2010.
The guys at Ferrari say that the 599 GTO comes with this new unbelievable V12 berlinetta that delivers a lap time of just 1 minute and 24 seconds at Fiorano , making it the fast road-going model in history. What??? Yeah, Maranello says it broke the previous record set by the Enzo.
This is going to be one helluva supercar with only 599 examples to be built which was inspired by 599XX prototype not too long ago.
When we say Ferrari we automatically are talking about speed and quickness, right? This is the company’s fastest ever road car and Ferrari claims that it does a 0-100 kph or 62 mph in just 3.5 seconds and top speed touches 335 kph or 208 mph. Now how does it manage that?
Well, if these smart guys make use of the 599XX’s tweaked 6.0 litre V12 engine, which churns out 670 horsepower with a maximum torque of 620 Nm, I say it’s possible. The handling has been improved with the use of new springs and a stiffer rear antiroll bar as well as a second-generation magnetorheological suspension control system (SCM2).
Thanks to the use of composite material, the weight has been lowered reulsting in 3295 lbs or lets say 185 lbs lighter than the 599 GTB. That results in giving a power to weight ratio of 2.23 kg/hp.
Press release
Maranello,8 April 2010 – Now available on www.ferrari.com are the first photos and information on the new 599 GTO, an extreme V12 berlinetta developed to a specific performance-oriented brief. The 599 GTO is, in fact, the company’s fastest ever road car. It is an exclusive limited edition special which, in true Ferrari tradition, is a completely new concept, albeit inspired by a production car. In fact the 599 GTO is based on the 599XX, the advanced experimental track car, and can be considered almost a road-going version.
The 599 GTO is reserved for just 599 clients who seek the maximum expression of high performance driving. The 599 GTO benefits directly from the technological transfer from racing and set a record lap time at Fiorano in 1’24”.
The Fiorano lap time provides just one indication of the potential of this car. Just as significant are the technical specifications – 670 hp in a 1495kg car represents a weight-to-power ratio of just 2.23 kg/hp, and ensures a 0-100 km/h acceleration time of just 3.35” as well as a top speed of over 335 km/h.
Fundamental to the GTO’s performance is the innovative approach to chassis development which, for the first time on a production car, saw the integration between a handling set-up tuned for a level of responsiveness that is close to the limit and highly sophisticated electronic controls. The result is the almost complete absence of understeer and a truly communicative chassis.
As is Ferrari’s policy, every new Ferrari features new solutions for a road car. Thus the 599 GTO is equipped with the latest, second-generation carbon-ceramic brakes which are lighter and offer better performance, new aerodynamic innovations, such as the wheel doughnuts which increase aerodynamic efficiency as well as improve brake cooling, and the Supersport tyres developed by Michelin include a wider front tyre for greater roadholding. The driver-car interface is also new with the adoption of the Virtual Race Engineer (VRE) which provides the driver with instantaneous information on performance.
The 599 GTO’s more aggressive character is also apparent in a number of styling elements that recall the 599XX and from the powerful sound of the V12.
The GTO (Gran Turismo Omologata) moniker instantly calls to mind two Ferraris that have entered the collective imagination as symbols of performance. After the 1962 250 GTO, which swept the boards in GT racing categories in the 1960s and is now a highly prized collector’s car, came the iconic 1984 GTO, which basically invented the entire modern supercar genre.
The web special includes photos, videos and interviews on the new car, while an exclusive preview for a small number of Ferrari clients will be held on April 14th at the MilitaryAcademyinModena. The public debut of the 599 GTO will instead be at the Beijing International Motor Show at the end of April.
Photographs of the 599 GTO can be downloaded from the Ferrari Media Centre at www.media.ferrari.com

599 GTO TECHNICAL CONTENTS
ENGINE AND GEARBOX
The 599 GTO’s engine is directly derived from the 599XX unit implementing, however, the necessary modifications for road-going homologation. It thus complies with Euro 5 and LEV 2 standards. The 5999 cc 65-degree V12 engine punches out 670 CV at 8250 rpm with maximum torque of 620 Nm at 6500 rpm and there is a smooth, constant rush of power all the way to the redline with no loss of flexibility even at medium and low revs. This result was obtained by working on the fluid-dynamics and components to reduce internal friction and by adopting, amongst other things, the 599XX’s redesigned crankshaft. The car also has a racing-type intake system with a new manifold with diffuser-type intake geometry and short inlet tracts designed to improve power delivery at high revs and reduce losses. To maximise volumetric efficiency per cylinder, a connection between the two plenums at the front compensates for variations in the volume. This is how the engineers managed to achieve maximum performance at high engine speeds. The engine sound inside the car is carefully controlled to balance the intake sound with the exhaust, which features a 599XX derived 6-into-1 manifold.
The 599 GTO features the same, lower 60 ms shift times and the possibility to make multiple downshifts as on the 599XX. Despite the increase in power over the 599 GTB Fiorano, fuel consumption and CO2 emissions both improve slightly to 17.5 km/l and 411 g/km respectively.
VEHICLE DYNAMICS
One of the most significant innovations on the 599 GTO is the close correlation between the chassis set-up, which is close to the handling limit, and the input from the electronic controls which are developed to increase overall levels of performance.
Since the very earliest states of the two cars’ development, Maranello’s engineers worked to ensure that these two areas of the car would be seamlessly integrated thus pushing responsiveness to the limit. The result is, of course, superlative driving involvement as well as faster lap times. Apart from new springs and a stiffer rear antiroll bar, the car also features a second generation magnetorheological suspension control system (SCM2). The suspension works in tandem with the VDC (Vehicle Dynamic Control) and latest-generation F1-Trac traction control. This makes the car extremely responsive to driver inputs – thanks in part to the adoption of a very direct steering ratio – but also very stable under braking, sharper on turn-in, more precise in cornering and quicker out of corners.
WEIGHT REDUCTION
The 599 GTO inherits much of the development work – using the same principles as employed in F1 – that went into making the 599XX such an extreme performance car.
Reducing weight was a vital objective and the result was the widespread use of composites and components manufactured with technologies more akin to racing specifications. The areas involved include the bodywork and greenhouse (with thinner gauge aluminium and thinner glass), the brakes, transmission and exhaust system. The result is a dry weight of 1495 kg (close to that of the 599XX with liquids, but less petrol), and a weight-to-power ratio of just 2.23 kg/hp, a very significant figure that underlines the GTO’s performance potential.
AERODYNAMICS
The 599 GTO’s aerodynamics have benefited significantly from Ferrari engineers’ experience in F1 and with the 599XX which allowed downforce to be greatly increased without impacting on drag. Thanks to solutions transferred from the track car to the road-going version, the GTO generates downforce of 144 kg at 200 km/h. The entire car was honed, including the front, the sides, the flat underbody and cooling flows. In the latter instance, the GTO can count on improved ducting to the brake discs and pads, and the adoption of wheel doughnuts – a disc positioned outside the brake disc that ensure that hot air exiting the wheelarch stays as close to the body of the car as possible to reduce drag.
Work on the nose of the car was aimed at reducing the width of the wake generated by the front and thus reduce drag. The front spoiler incorporates a separate lower wing that increases downforce at the front of the car and increases the flow of cooling air to the oil radiator. On the flanks there’s a new sill design with a more pronounced leading edge that improves the efficiency of the central section of the underbody. The underbody itself incorporates a new, lower front section with diffusers ahead of the front wheels to optimise downforce, and a new double-curve rear diffuser.
WHEEL RIMS AND TYRES
Here the difference in size between the front and rear tyres has been changed. The GTO’s front tyres are now 285/30 on a 9.5’’ channel with 315/35 on an 11.5’’ channel at the rear. The 599 GTO has 20’’ rims. Roll rigidity is greater at the rear to minimise understeer. These solutions guarantee improved lateral grip and quicker turn in.
BRAKES
Once again, our experience with the 599XX proved fundamental in honing the new car’s Brembo braking system because of the highly specific development work carried out on the former on very demanding circuits. The new CCM2 braking system is lighter and even more consistent in high performance situations. Its consistent coefficient of attrition meant that the ABS could be calibrated to a particularly high performance level, further reducing lap times, thanks to improved deceleration and shorter stopping distances. In fact, the 599 GTO boasts an excellent 100 to 0 km/h braking distance of just 32.5 metres. As well as their role in improving aerodynamics, the Formula 1-derived wheel doughnuts also improve braking efficiency by optimising brake cooling.
CAR-DRIVER INTERFACE
The car-driver interface was designed to maximise car and driver performance with a layout of the main commands that ensures absolute efficiency and minimum distraction. The Racing manettino also puts the emphasis firmly on sporty, track specific driving settings by offering the driver full choice with regard to the electronic control parameters. The ICE position on the 599 GTB Fiorano has been replaced by CT-Off (traction control off). The GTO is also fitted with bespoke, longer carbon-fibre F1 paddles for easier use in high-speed driving. In addition the GTO also features the Virtual Race Engineer, a system that monitors the status of the car and gives the driver immediate visibility of vehicle performance.

One Two… Red Bull
by Aman ChaudhryNo CommentsOne sweet win for Vettel. Sebastian Vettel Of Red Bull Wins The Malaysian F1 Grand Prix at Sepang today.
First victory of 2010 for Sebastian Vettel.
First ever one-two win for team Red Bull. While Vettel bagged the pole position, team mate Mark Webber followed suit while Mercedes GPs’ Nico Roseberg was a close third.
An action packed race started all bright and sunny unlike the showers during qualifying, not forgetting last year when the rain did manage to bring the race to a halt altogether.
The track saw some brilliant driving by Lewis Hamilton who started 20th and finished 6th today (though he did receive a warning from the officials for excessive weaving) Michael Schumacher wasn’t as lucky as his Mercedes gave up after just 9 laps into the race.
Fernando Alonso’s Ferrari engine went bust with just 2 laps remaining to finish, though he did give Button one wild chase.

Mark Webber to start first in Malaysia
by Aman ChaudhryNo CommentsRed Bull driver Mark Webber secured pole position is today’s qualifying at the Sepang circuit in Malaysia. Though rain damped and interrupted the race, that did not stop Webber. His choice of intermediate tyres helped him completely.
Parked next to Webber in the front row for tommow’s final race will be Mercedes’ Nico Roseberg while Sebatian Vettel starts third.
Rain started just before the session and left the track soaked and slippery while some parts remained dry.
The rain got the better of both Ferraris and McLarens pushing them outside the top 16 grid.
None of the drivers expected this and only few got satisfactory laps leaving drivers like Button to slip down to 17th position as well.
The track saw a lot of cars spinning around and sliding through gravel making in a very exciting race.
